About ClearPaste
ClearPaste is a free, browser-based text cleaner for AI-generated content. It removes the formatting layer that copy-paste leaves behind — markdown clutter, smart quotes, em dashes and invisible Unicode characters — so your text behaves in a CMS, a codebase, JSON or a document.
What ClearPaste does
- Strips markdown — headings, bullets, asterisks, code fences and links
- Normalizes typography — em/en dashes, smart quotes, ellipses, non-breaking spaces
- Removes invisible characters — zero-width spaces, joiners, BOMs, bidi marks (emoji-safe)
- Fixes whitespace — trailing spaces, doubled blank lines
Every rule is a toggle. Paste raw AI output, choose what to clean, copy the result. Try the cleaner →
How it processes your text
Everything runs as JavaScript in your own browser tab. Your text is never sent to a server, logged, or stored anywhere — closing the tab clears it completely. There is no account, no upload, no limit.
Our position on AI watermarks
ClearPaste cleans the layer that actually causes copy-paste problems: formatting and Unicode artifacts. It is not represented as a tool for defeating proprietary AI provenance systems.
- What we do claim: we remove markdown, invisible characters, smart quotes, em dashes and whitespace from AI text.
- What we explicitly don't claim: we cannot verify or remove statistical watermarks such as Claude's planned text watermark or Google's SynthID. No browser-based tool can, and we say so instead of selling you a promise. Read the honest breakdown →
We believe the useful, honest segment of "AI text hygiene" is real — and that the marketing noise around "making text undetectable" mostly isn't.
Who maintains it
ClearPaste is an independent, cost-conscious project. The site is static and dependency-free, which keeps it fast, private and cheap to run. If you have feedback or a bug report, the best way to reach us is through the repository issues on the project's public GitHub.
